Linda Press and Robert Rea – Recent
Works
LINDA PRESS paints appealing and intriguing cityscapes from Europe
and the United States. She is interested in the poetic quality of light
and shadow. They set up a counterpoint to the tangible structures in
nature and man-made architecture. A sense of history in the
architectural detail adds another layer of interest. Linda’s art has
been exhibited in Paris, New York, Washington D.C., as well as other
major cities in the United States, and has been selected for National
Exhibitions of Contemporary American Artists. She is a graduate of
Cornell University and holds an MFA from Columbia University. She and
her husband Philip live in Columbia, Maryland.

Press' colorful geometry elates at
Gallery of New Masters
The Gazette
Linda Press explodes the academic.
Using photographs to job her memory, Press combines views of buildings
and streets to create a distorted perspective that flouts the rule:
always maintain the same viewpoint. Her paintings of European streets
convey a greater reality than that of the visual. Her distorted
perspective reflects the varied viewpoints of someone looking around a
place, while her free use of color conveys her emotional reaction to it.

Playing with views of reality: Howard artist's views of reality
Dec. 5, 2002, Baltimore Sun
In her paintings, Linda Press likes to play with reality, showing
buildings and cityscapes made more interesting with multiple
perspectives, bright colors and attention to texture and patterns.
"Like rearranging photographs on a table, I move space and perception
around. ... The misconnections from these patterns make the painting
closer to `reality' - an emotional, visceral reality," Press said in a
written statement she uses to promote her work. It is an approach that
earned her a place in a prestigious French exhibition last month.
